Englishman delighted to give Ryder Cup push an early boost

Ian Poulter acknowledged his victory at the Singapore Open could not have come at a better time with the race for Ryder Cup points having now started.

The 33-year-old Englishman clinched his first title since the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament Japan back in November 2007 as he held off China’s Liang Wen-chong to win by one stroke at Sentosa Golf Club over the weekend.

When he faced a downhill lie in a little bit of rough at the Deutsche Bank Championship several weeks ago, Kevin Streelman choked down on the hybrid and delivered a splendid shot.

Even the walking official nodded his approval toward Streelman’s caddie, Michael Collins, who didn’t miss his opening.

“There’s an app for that,” Collins said, and Streelman couldn’t help but laugh.

Leaving the field behind, Funk shot a flawless final-round 65 at Crooked Stick Golf Club on Sunday, avoiding any speed bumps, slam-Funking his first national championship.
