 Ian Poulter
Globe-trotting superstar Ian Poulter is one of the most recognizable figures in professional golf. Following the 2009 season, Ian was ranked 12th in the Official World Golf Rankings. The two-time Ryder Cup team member has been ranked among the world’s best since joining the European Tour in 2000. With twelve worldwide victories to his credit, Ian is poised for the next step – a major championship. He came close in 2008, finishing second in the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
Ian turned professional in 1995 and worked his way up through the club pro ranks before earning status on the 1999 European Challenge Tour. He advanced through Qualifying School later that year to gain his European Tour card and enjoyed a breakout season. He won the 2000 Italian Open on his way to being named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year.
In 2003, Ian won both the Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open and the Nordic Open on his way to finishing a career-best fifth on the European Tour’s Volvo Order of Merit. He made his Ryder Cup debut the following year and recorded a 1-1 record while helping the European team to victory.
Beginning in 2005, Ian has split his time between the European Tour and the U.S. PGA Tour. In 2007, Ian was one of just seven players to make the cut in all four major championships. He made his second Ryder Cup appearance at Valhalla in 2008 and finished with a team-best 4-1 record.
Ian has also gained notoriety for his sense of style and fashion. His creative outfits have made him a recognizable figure throughout the world. His interest in fashion began at a young age when he sold and merchandised clothing at the Stevenage Market. He would use his earnings to purchase the latest styles for his own growing wardrobe.
In 2007, Ian launched Ian Poulter Design which produces distinctive high-quality apparel that can be worn on and off the golf course. The company strives to design clothing that allows its customers to fully express their personality and style. Ian’s philosophy – “Look good, feel good, play well” – is embodied in each of the designs.
