Billy Mayfair is a five-time PGA Tour winner and will play his 21st consecutive season on the PGA Tour in 2010.
Billy’s best finish in 2009 came at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open where he finished tied for ninth. In 2008, Billy enjoyed a very solid season. He finished second at both the PODS Championship and the RBC Canadian Open. Billy advanced through the first three Fed-Ex Cup Playoff events before tying for 10th at the TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. In the final Fed-Ex Cup standings, he finished 23rd.
In 2005, Billy was remarkably consistent. He made 27 of 31 cuts and recorded six top-10 and 13 top-25 finishes. He finished 22nd on the money list, eclipsing the $2 million mark in single-season earnings for the first time in his career. Billy’s finest season was 1995 when he recorded two wins and three runner-up finishes. He finished the year number two on the final money list after capping off the season by winning The Tour Championship.
In his career, Billy has won some of the Tour’s most prestigious events, including the 1998 Nissan Open, where he defeated Tiger Woods in sudden-death. To date, he is the only player to beat Woods in a PGA Tour playoff. He currently ranks among the top-35 on the PGA Tour All-Time Career Money List with over $18 million in earnings.
Prior to launching his professional career, Billy enjoyed unbelievable amateur success. Billy won the 1986 US Public Links and the 1987 US Amateur titles. While at Arizona State he also was the recipient of the Fred Haskins Award as the nation’s top collegiate player.
Off the course, Billy is one of the most personable and likable players on the PGA Tour. He is a very genuine person who truly has a “heart of gold” and a passion for life. In 2006, Billy battled and overcame testicular cancer and it has only made him stronger. He enjoys and excels in hosting and playing in various corporate and charity outings and pro-ams around the country. Billy currently resides in Scottsdale, AZ with his wife Tami and 10-year old son, Maxwell.
