then I was once in your shoes, too.
Like you, I was also searching to find such an agency when I founded Icon more than 12 years ago.
Having initially practiced law, I knew that such a ‘traditional’ use of my degree was not…well….me. So, I researched and became totally intrigued by sports agency and management. And, like many young professionals even now who are intrigued by this industry, I distributed cover letters and resumes, and met with (or attempted to meet with) many individuals already established in this industry. But, I again discovered that, for whatever reason, those existing companies were not me either.
Realizing it was an uphill battle, I started Icon because I wanted to create an agency for those who wanted something that would stand apart from the norm in sports management and agency. Although my professional background was not sports-oriented, it did encompass a myriad of disciplines, that when combined could create value for future clients. I wanted to utilize not only my law degree, but my background in fashion, merchandising, marketing and public relations to establish an agency that could create and manage meaningful professional relationships – relationships truly tailored to meet individual needs and goals. I never intended (nor do we now intend) to be the biggest or a ‘one size fits all’ management group. Simply put, genuinely knowing and understanding each client, individual or entity, is the foundation for what we do every day.
